"Panto hits the right notes"
by Philip Herbert for remotegoat on 04/12/14

This is Charles Court Opera's 8th Panto at The Rosemary Branch and it's a wild west panto with a difference . Some beautiful classically trained voices ring out and hit all the right notes - it is a pleasure to hear such singing without the aid of mics and amplification . The small 60 seater theatre is like a pop up pocket sized panto with all the trimmings . We have two dames , an award winning goat , a fine tuned squaw , an evil villain who wants to stuff billy ( the goat ) , Buckaroo Dan his owner and a saucy Sheriff who makes sure that no-one is too wayward and remains law abiding .
Well known songs are replaced with witty alternative lyrics and there is a sing-a-long , a buffalo milking contest , plenty of audience participation and some naughty one liners to add to the mix . The entire cast works well together and the plot moves along at a cracking pace . Highlights were the tap dancing goat , the milking song - 'milking 9 to 5 ' , the dames gags and all in all a splendid cast .
Bruce Graham plays Mumford the villain of the piece and has all the right mannerisms and gets his boos in all the right places , Nichola Jolley is Pocabeaver the squaw with a heart of gold , Matthew Kellett gives us Billy The Goat and acts and sings with ease and grace , Amy J Payne is the caring sharing Sheriff who is deep down is a good man with a lonely heart ,Buckaroo Dan - Joanna Marie Skillett - who owns the goat and wins all the prizes at the county fair and last but least is John Savourin as Dame Nelly and her sister Raging Hormone has such a natural style and energy we fall in love with her straight away . This talented performer also directs and choreographs and keeps the show moving along nicely as well as all the audience stuff and some very cheeky one-liners .
