'As I gazed down at the still form of my first victim,
I experienced a strange, peaceful thrill.'

Christie in Love by Howard Brenton examines the interrogation, conviction, execution and mind of infamous serial killer John Reginald Christie - nicknamed The Whispering
Strangler. The production is the first revival in London since 1970 as well as celebrating the
plays 40th anniversary. The 8 November also marks 60 years since Christie murdered Beryl
Evans and her baby the day after.
Set in the back garden of 10 Rillington Place, Notting Hill, where Christie killed and
buried six women, Brenton takes a critical view of the authorities and asks us to show compassion towards a disturbed fellow human being. He asks; What makes an apparently
respectable person into a serial killer? And who amongst us is capable of something similar?
