Significant Other Genres

The Pensive Federation examine Genre as part of Park Theatre launch.

The Pensive Federation return to London with their Significant Other Festival this month with bigger ambitions than ever.

The Company, formed in 2011 by Old Vic New Voices alumni Neil Byden and Laura Kim, and now joined by writer Serena Haywood, revels in challenging writers, directors and actors to collaborate - often around a theme and against the clock.

Building on the success of the 2012 Significant Other Festival, this year's show features ten ten-minute plays, all written and rehearsed in just ten days. Not satisfied with this challenge, the Pensive Federation are asking their writers to explore ten different genres.

Neil Byden commented
"Genre is rarely discussed in theatre, which struck us odd. We're happy to label a film rom-com, sci-fi or western, but - with possibly the honourable exception of farce - theatre seems to shun that kind of labelling. We wondered why?"

So, in typical Pensive Federation, style a team of forty of the brightest theatre makers on the fringe has been assembled to find out.

You can see the results as part of The Park Theatre's launch season. May 21st to 25th.
