by Julia Stubbs Hughes
based on the novel by Edith Wharton
presented by Grey Swan

Charity is eighteen years old and a child of the Mountain: wild and free.
She yearns to escape from the boredom of her existence in the village of North Dormer.

Into her life comes Lucius, a New Yorker, with his knowledge and experience of the world. Her guardian and father-figure, Lawyer Royall, fears he could be the destruction of this engaging young woman.

Summer tells the story of a woman's awakening, caught between the desires of two men who want her for themselves.

Edith Wharton (1862-1937) is widely known for the novels 'Ethan Frome', 'The House of Mirth' and 'The Age of Innocence' for which she won the Pulitzer Prize.

Julia Stubbs Hughes' adaptation takes the three central characters of the novel and explores the discovery of love and attraction within a morally complex situation. 'Summer' is produced by Grey Swan and directed by Timothy Stubbs Hughes who brought the critically acclaimed 'bodies unfinished' by Lewis Hetherington to the Jack Studio Theatre in 2011
