Trial by Jury - Edinburgh Fringe

The St Andrews Gilbert and Sullivan Society will present Trial by Jury, performing August 24th to 30th at Studio at Paradise in Augustines (Venue 152) as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Directed by Heather Tiernan, this fast-paced 45-minute production reimagines the operetta in an Edwardian setting, bringing fresh relevance to its satire of love and law.
One of Gilbert and Sullivan's earliest works, Trial by Jury is sharp and playful one-act show that follows a chaotic courtroom case in which the roguish Edwin is sued by the heartbroken Angelina for breach of promise to marry. As a pompous judge and sentimental jury attempt to deliver justice, the trial spirals into comic absurdity.
"Gilbert and Sullivan's work remains just as funny and witty as when it was first written, and the music continues to be effortlessly beautiful,” Says director Heather Tiernan, “We hope this production of Trial by Jury will bring a sprinkle of that absurd and wonderful whimsy to this year's Edinburgh Fringe."
Featuring an additional scene and songs from The Mikado and The Gondoliers, this hilarious take on love and the legal system is sure to leave you laughing long after the final note.
