Soul Mama welcomes the extraordinary Audrey Powne for an intimate live performance showcasing one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz and soul.
A Naarm/Melbourne-raised, UK-based trumpeter, vocalist, producer and composer, Audrey Powne is widely celebrated for her fearless creativity and genre-blurring sound. Described by Gilles Peterson as “The very brilliant Audrey Powne,” she moves effortlessly between future jazz, soul, R&B, cinematic soundscapes and free improvisation, all underpinned by exceptional musicianship and emotional depth
Audrey's critically acclaimed debut album From the Fire (BBE Records) cemented her as a powerful creative force, earning praise from BBC Radio 6, Radio 2, Jazz FM, DownBeat, Earmilk and Bandcamp Daily. The project saw her take full creative control — writing, producing, arranging strings and performing across trumpet, keys and vocals — resulting in a deeply personal and sonically rich body of work
