The Stockport Garrick is an amateur theatre. Members pay an annual membership fee to be part of a company providing high quality drama. See the membership information page for details of the current subscription. Performances are staged throughout the year and usually run for a week at a time. Despite its amateur status the garrick is proud of its reputation for achieving a professional standard of production.

he Stockport Garrick Theatre was founded in 1901 and has staged plays ever since (even during both world wars). The society has been housed at it's current location (Exchange St, Stockport) since 1920. The building was previously used as a mill and is set against the backdrop of Stockport's grand Victorian viaduct. The theatre has a long tradition of staging new and adventurous plays alongside more popular productions.

The Auditorium in the theatre has a capacity of 155 seated. Stage visiblity is excellent from all seats and a relatively low level of stage elevation allows the audience a more intimate rapport with the performance. Unfortunately the auditorium is not yet suitable for wheelchair access but help is always available to assist those of restricted mobility to their seats. An induction loop is provided for the assistance of members of the audience with suitable electronic hearing aids.

The main bar is situated in the lounge area and stocks a wide range of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks at favourable prices. Tea and coffee are also available. The bar is open from 30 minutes before the start of performances and for the remainder of the evening. It is also open to members on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings as well as on numerous members' evenings.

The Stockport Garrick Theatre is situated in the heart of Stockport Town Centre on the corner of Wellington Road South (A6) and Exchange Street. The theatre is within a few minutes walk of Stockport Train Station and main bus station, with many regular services to and from Manchester city centre. A free car-park is available on all performance evenings, situated next to the theatre.
