Fairport Convention great WinTour 2016 arrived at the Union Chapel, London.

Every year the Fairport Convention organises a brilliant Winter Tour. As a part of it, last 4th March they played at the Union Chapel in Islington, London.
Folk -rock legends Fairport Convention did a much celebrated 31 dates Winter Tour, in 2016 at its thirty-second consecutive edition.
Fairport Convention regularly introduces new concert material as well as drawing on its huge back catalogue. Therefore, the Winter Tour presents a different music programme every year.
The Union Chapel concert was opened by singer-songwriter Roger Davies, with a short acoustic guitar and voice solo performance. Based in Brighouse, Davies accompanies himself on guitar, and plays original songs inspired by his love for Yorkshire, its towns and its people.
The two set gig of Fairport Convention started with a song played together with Davies. The gig featured a mix of traditional preferred songs and some extracts from the new studio album, ‘Myths and Heroes’, released last year. They like to introduce each song with a short presentation by a band member which ends up always in jokes flying widely.
The concert ended with ‘Meet on the Ledge’ performed together with Davies and a blind trumpet player – the band likes to host someone special at the concert every year at the Union Chapel.
The Fairport Convention endurance probably relies on the great fun they clearly have on stage. The only founding member still in the group, lead vocalist and guitarist Simon Nicol said: "Live shows are what drive us. Fairport has been gigging for nearly fifty years and we still love every minute of it. We are at our happiest when we’re on the road.”
Bass player Dave Pegg, instead, has joined the band a little later in 1970. The other band members are: violinist Ric Sanders who joined in 1985; singer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Leslie who joined in 1996; and drummer Gerry Conway joined in 1998.
An established group on the music panorama, Fairport Convention started to play on May 1967. They are credited to have originated the British folk-rock genre. Fairport Convention has been critically acclaimed widely. The band has won a coveted BBC Lifetime Achievement Award; Radio 2 listeners voted Fairport’s groundbreaking album Liege & Lief 'The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time'. In 2012, the BBC Four Television paid homage to the story of Fairport Convention with a significant documentary.
