‘Dancing with Mrs Murphy’ is a darkly edgy drama set in Leith, 1956: the Suez Crisis signals the last stages of Empire. Rose Murphy, staggering under the pressure of work and family, is all shook up by Elvis. Can she dance into a brighter future? It’s a play about mothers and sons and coping with the changes brought about by the 1950s.

‘Dancing with Mrs Murphy’ is part of Citadel Arts Group’s 1950s project supported by City of Edinburgh Council, random arts giving, GoodnessKNOWS, Port of Leith Housing,

.

Citadel Arts Group is a registered charity (SC 034687) dedicated to developing new plays by older writers and giving them the chance to see their work professionally performed in a variety of community venues. We also collect living memories into books and use the stories of Leith as inspiration for drama. Citadel is based in Leith Dockers Club. ‘Citadel Arts Group mine the history of the district for little gems . . . of shared cultural memory’ (4-star review from Rob Peacock, Wee Review, 2016) Citadel Arts Group is supported by The Robertson Trust.
