Theatre Mixte in association with Giant Olive presents:

By Georg Büchner

Directed by Alan Marni

8th - 14th February 2010

Woyzeck, a visionary and poet is driven and incited to murder the love of his life Marie, in a fit of psychological trauma.

Written around 1836 and based on true events, Büchner's searing indictment of the systematic annihilation of a proletariat hero is also a timely and stark reminder of the traumatic impact of war. Banned for over fifty years before it saw the light of day in 1913, it pre emps the social realism of Brecht by nearly a century and echoes Shakespeare's Macbeth, Othello and Romeo And Juliet, as one of the most beautiful but disturbing love stories of European classical drama.
