A recently rediscovered play by Cecil Beaton about Thomas Gainsborough and his family is to be performed for the first time in 60 years by the Tower Theatre Company.

Gainsborough had two daughters, Margaret and Mary, who giddily entered society when the family moved from Bath to Pall Mall in 1774. The play follows their progress, as well as introducing the colourful characters of James Christie (founder of the auction house) and Emma, Lady Hamilton, before she married.

The parallels between the lives of Gainsborough and Beaton are interesting - both coming from merchant families and both, through their creative achievements, going on to record the life and times of the high society of their day.

This revival promises to be an entertaining production, giving an interesting perspective on a different aspect of Cecil Beaton's creative talent.
