Richmond Theatre are once again pleased to welcome Ellen Kent and Opera International as they present Puccini's operatic masterpiece, Tosca.

Premiered in 1900, Tosca has stood the test of time and is one of the undisputed classics of the opera repertoire. Following on from huge success at the Royal Albert Hall in 2002, this fantastic production, with its tender and moving arias Recondita Armonia, Vissi d'Arte and E Lucevan le Stelle, is a heady mixture of true love, torture and treachery, with two of the best roles for tenor and soprano, plus a pure evil villain as the baritone.

In order to create music with authenticity, Puccini went to Rome especially to listen to the early morning church bells from the ramparts of the Castel Sant'Angelo before penning his score. In similar fashion, Ellen Kent visited some of Italy's most inspiring churches in order to create a set which would compliment such a celebrated piece; resulting in sets that are rich, grand and lavish with beautiful period Italian tapestries, chandeliers and costumes replicating Rome in the early nineteenth century.

Children from a local school have been invited to take part in this traditional production of Tosca to sing in Act 1. One young child will have the honour of singing the part of the 'Shepherd Boy' having his very own solo role!
