“The articles are shit. No offence, Charlotte. But no one buys our publication principally for the literature. I think it’s important to recognise that.”

Lucy Kirkwood’s quick wit and dark comedy holds a lens to the hypocrisy of modern journalism in her 2012 play, NSFW. Lad’s mag Doghouse is in trouble: after mistakenly featuring a topless image of an underage girl, her furious father threatens to bring down the magazine.

Fired from Doghouse for making this mistake, Sam interviews for a job at women’s fashion weekly Electra but quickly discovers unsettling parallels between the two - forcing him to choose between compromising his values, or yet another unpaid internship he cannot afford. Who is to blame for increasing objectification of women? Must you sacrifice your principles to secure your livelihood? Not I Theatre present Kirkwood’s dark satire on media hypocrisy and modern feminism.

Catch Not I's latest production before its full run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
