Peer Gynt is the world in two hours. A farm boy, stifled by his ailing mother, sets off to make his way in the world. He discovers that, to succeed, you must jettison conscience. But Peer is a Norwegian and a Lutheran. His conscience cannot entirely die however hard he tries to live for himself.
