ASSASSINS is about America, the dream that America is founded on and the myth that everybody has the right to be happy. Nine assassins are brought together in Sondheim and Weidman's darkly comic musical to explore some of their reasoning, their dreams and ideologies - and ultimately how they used their democratic rights to justify their murderous rage. From John Wilkes Booth ("I did it to avenge the ravaged South"), to Sara Jane Moore ("I did it so my friends would know where I was coming from"), ASSASSINS considers what these desperate people hoped to achieve and how it impacted on the lives of the country around them.
