Modern Jesus is the exciting London debut, for new theatre company Fledgling Theatre. Focussing on delivering contemporary physical theatre, Fledgling Theatre will take on this thrilling new writing by Christopher Neels. Coming from New Zealand, his previous works (These are the Skeletons of Us, The Seven Funerals of Charlie Morris) have been described as ‘rich, affecting and very funny’ (Theatreview), Modern Jesus is sure to be an exciting debut for the London stage.

Charlie works at a local Sainsbury’s. She is entirely dissatisfied with her life to date. In a moment of pure frustration she assaults a collector for a charity who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. This moment of liberation leads to Charlie losing her job, but also ignites her desire for change and rebellion. Inspired by the half-baked philosophies of her half-baked neighbour (Matt), she enlisted a group of friends and they embark on the ‘Revolution of Inconvenience’. The revolution begins as something relatively harmless; steal a few shopping trolleys, wearing silly masks and pretending to make a change. But when some leaked YouTube footage goes viral and copycat revolutions’ begin to happen all across the country, the group descends into the very serious reality of having truly started something.

Modern Jesus is a play about the line between idealism and extremism and how easy it is for it to blur.
