A Trip to Scarborough

Written and directed by Alan Ayckbourn
Variations on the original play by R. B. Sheridan

The Royal Hotel, Scarborough is haunted!
Amidst the scurry and flurry of modern day 21st century holiday makers and conference delegates with their iPods and their mobile phones, lurk ghosts from earlier times, the mid 20th and 18th centuries. Tom Fashion, Sheridan's penniless buck rubs invisible shoulders with present day philandering husbands and anxious young wives from the 1940s anxiously awaiting news of missing fighter pilot husbands. All overseen by a long suffering hotel staff.

Add in a live band in fancy dress, a murderous major, a hapless heroine, a crusty father with a blunderbuss, an unexpected guest appearance by the fabulous Andrews Sisters, a swindling scam involving the original Sheridan manuscript of A Trip to Scarborough and the result is a fast moving, tense and hilarious spin through the ages. History was never such fun as in this typically ingenious magic carpet ride.
