'After being fleeced by an Infantry Captain, big time chancer and minor ranking civil servant Ivan Khlestakov has finally ground to a halt in a corrupt provincial back-water town where its not just the rats that are on the tale. His Petersburg haircut, though, plays havoc with the yokels when they mistake him for the dreaded Government Inspector.' Charm Offensive Theatre Company's 'Acting Gymnasium' is a weekly creative acting workshop class focussing on mind, body and vocal technique for actors, working within a classical text context. We are actors of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience which is what makes the company so unique. The founder is Gavin McAlinden who has just received two Off West End nominations (Best Ensemble and Best Director) for his stage adaptation of David Edgar's Pentecost which ran for five weeks back in March/April. The Gym has been running since August 2011 and its first full scale performance was Anton Chekov's 'The Seagull' which we performed at the Cockpit Theatre for two runs, both in January and May. After the success of this, we are currently working on our second performance which is Nicolai Gogol's Russian satyrical classic 'The Government Inspector', for which we have secured a run at The Camden Fringe, performing at the prestigious Shaw Theatre near Kings Cross. |
