Following the success of The Laramie Project, Wild Oats Productions is thrilled to continue its collaboration with Greenwich theatre...

On October 6th 1998, gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. He died in hospital six days later, fifty days before his twenty-second birthday. His torture and murder focused worldwide attention on hate, and forced many to confront their attitudes towards sexuality. A month after the murder, the members of Tectonic Theater Project travelled to Laramie and conducted over 200 interviews with the people of the town. From these interviews they wrote The Laramie Project, which has since been seen by more than 30 million people worldwide.
Ten years on, Tectonic Theater members returned to Laramie to find out what has happened over the last decade. Has Matthew's murder had a lasting impact on society? How has the town changed as a result of that event? What does life in Laramie tell us about life in our own communities 10 years later?
On October 12th 2009, 150 theatres across America presented readings of The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later to commemorate the 11th anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death. Now, for the first time ever in London, audiences will be able to witness this powerful theatrical event in a special One Night Only reading of the play.
