About

Tea building is east London's new centre for media and creative industry. Its prime location at the junction of Shoreditch high street and Bethnal Green road affords access to both excellent transport links and the most inspirational after-hours entertainment in the capital. Dating back to the nineteenth century, its unique, spacious interior has been converted into five floors of inexpensive studio spaces. The communal atmosphere is further enhanced by an on-site bar, café and gallery.

Conveniently dunked between the Liverpool Street corporate high rises and Hoxton’s bevy of boozers/nudey bars is this hidden tea chest of treasures, where hobnobbing with the Shoreditch nonconformists is a pastime you won’t feel smothered by.

What is essentially a youth club for trendy young adults, Tea, with its assembly-hall vastness, is, in retrospect, like being back at school. Its only demerit would be its absence of pupils. But what it does lack in bodies it makes up for in class. A muted sound system, a scattering of kitsch IKEA furnishings, various flamboyant murals and maroon corduroy ‘David Lynch’ type drapes help fill this cavernous, low-ceilinged, concrete emporium.
